Carved By The Water’s Edge: What Do You See? is an exhibition of driftwood sculptures found and reimagined by the artist Rick LaRue.
Over the course of his hundreds of journeys on the Chesapeake Bay, Rick has found and repurposed hundreds of pieces of wood, shells, and other natural and human-made materials that float about or lie on some forgotten shore. Many of these pieces were created by the water (as the title says), as well as by the rocks, sand, salt, and sun. It was Rick who loaded them on his kayak and gave them a home.
In some instances, Rick engages the audience by hiding his titles and asking guests to offer their names for certain pieces before viewing his.
This exhibition will be featured at CREATE Arts Center’s Tamar Hendel Gallery, 914 Silver Spring Avenue, from April 25 through June 6, 2026. The Opening Reception will be Saturday, April 25, from 12 to 2 pm.
