Artist Statement

I believe pottery should be interesting to look at, fun to use, and pleasant to hold. Many of my signature pieces combine functional pottery with sculptural forms that are reminiscent of whimsical animals.

During the Covid lockdown, I joined a small group of potters on Zoom weekly, who challenged each other with various prompts and projects. One of my challenges was to make a piece of pottery in an Arts and Crafts style. During this time, BROOD X was making a big impression on me, so I combined the stylized vase forms from the Art Deco period with my fascination for cicadas and this is the final result.
