The purpose of the CREATE internship program is to provide students meaningful work, educational experiences, and real-life understanding of the day-to-day operations in a busy non-profit community arts center. We have several internship opportunities available and open to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as adults with interests in the visual arts, art education, art therapy, and working with children.
CREATE Internships are offered in the following areas:
Education and Community Arts
The Education and Community Arts Intern will provide assistance in initiating and managing, organizational and on-site support for CREATE’s numerous education programs, including our Art Classes and Art Camps. The ideal intern has a passion for and demonstrated commitment to art and community organizations. Applicants should be well organized and detail-oriented, and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Working in our diverse environment requires an ability to multitask and strong time management skills. Must be computer literate and familiar with MS Office. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to :
- Prepping art materials and maintaining classroom supplies
- Assisting teachers with classroom management
- Helping students with artwork
- Assisting with children during lunch and break times
- Leading art activities during Before/After-Care
- Helping with off-site community engagement events
The Art Administration Intern will provide organizational support for numerous communications and administrative functions. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the arts industry and be involved in a variety of areas on the business side of the arts. The ideal intern has a passion for and demonstrated commitment to art and community organizations. Applicants should be well organized and detail-oriented, and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Working in our diverse environment requires an ability to multitask and strong time management skills. Must be computer literate and familiar with MS Office.
Marketing and Communications
The Marketing and Communications intern will work side by side with CREATE’s Communications Director, assisting with marketing and public relation campaigns, event management, direct mail marketing, online calendar postings, and community outreach. Will also assist with regular maintenance of CREATE’s website, media monitoring, calendar listings, contact lists, and drafting emails. Strong digital and website design background required for helping to complete various projects such as flyers, brochures, one-sheets, sponsorship packets, etc. Interns may distribute flyers to local community partners, help organize and participate in local art shows, and assist with marketing events by helping teachers with off-site projects and sharing about CREATE with interested families. Ideal candidates should possess strong organizational skills, proficient writing and communication skills, and familiarity with MS office and social media platforms. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, is preferred but not required.
Art Therapy and Arts Education Joint Internship
Graduate students studying art therapy are encouraged to assist and explore our Art Education programs in addition to assisting with our Art Therapy Department. Interested applicants can contact us at (301) 588-2787 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Depending on the nature of the internship and approval of the student’s school, college, or university, academic credit may be granted for internships. Student applicants should consult their academic advisor for additional information. When seeking credit with CREATE interns will have a minimum hour requirement and must be supervised and evaluated by staff.
High school interns can earn approved SSL hours for the work they do at CREATE.
